Nomsa Sebata

Mrs Nomsa Sebata

Community Health Practitioner

Having obtained her nursing diploma at Lebone College of Nursing in 1993, Nomsa Sebata is a registered nurse specialising in midwifery, psychiatry, and community nursing.

Her nursing career began in the spinal unit at Rand Mutual Hospital, Johannesburg, after which she relocated to Pretoria, where she spent seven years in the male surgical unit at the Pretoria Academic Hospital. Here, her frequent exposure to injury-on-duty patients sparked her interest in occupational health nursing, and she completed her occupational health nursing diploma at Technikon Pretoria in 1995.

In 2001, Nomsa relocated to Zimbabwe along with her family. She became actively involved at Parirenyatwa Hospital’s children’s burns unit through an outreach established by Harare International School. Their key role was to support both mother and child through the recovery process, providing counselling and education on how to create safer cooking stations at home, fireproof kitchens, and safely position and handle hazardous appliances.

Another relocation followed in 2012, this time to Zambia, where Atalia continued her community work, focusing on education and nutrition. She also joined Herbalife to learn more about healthy eating habits, preventing obesity and reducing lifestyle disease.

Outside of work, she loves nature, gardening, and outdoor activities, particularly running and hiking. She has completed half marathons and enjoys hiking in neighbouring countries such as Swaziland and Lesotho. A highlight was her participation in the well-known annual Moshoeshoe Walk in 2020. This 103 km three-day walk serves as a platform to raise funds to support and keep the girl child in school and prevent child marriage and pregnancies.
